Needlepoint Doorstop
13″ x 7″
(large enough to cover one brick)
Furry Friend
by Julaina Kleist-Corwin
Hello sweet kitty
You greet my return each day
Smiling face I love.
Hello Kitty
by Jordan Bernal
Kitty, kitty cat
You open a door for me
Hello kitty cat
Hello, Kitty!
by Annette Langer
You are a sentry, strong and brave.
You guard against intruders and protect against the elements.
The wind, however mighty, is no match for you.
You stand tall and proud at your post, silently multitasking your duties (note the mouse).
You are regal and you are resourceful (see note above).
You display the resistance of a palace guard but the humility of a servant,
Never flinching, always ready.
You possess the beauty of an art piece but the strength of concrete (well, actually, a brick).
No, this is not your mother’s doorstop.
I made you and you are mine!
Oh, For the Love of a Kitty
by Marilyn Slade
Katie loved kittens
She found her first one
abandoned in her neighbor’s garbage can, so sad
Kind Katie came upon a soft sweet black kitten
drenched in rain and shivering
She dried it with her sweater, it purred
Observant Katie spied a frightened kitten
Stuck on a tall tree limb
She found a ladder, rescued it
just before the kitty lost her grip
Nurse Katie carried an injured kitten
hit by a car to an Animal Hospital
Taught it to walk again
Katie loved dogs too, but saved a kitten
chased by a vicious dog with teeth bared
She scared it away with her mean look
Katie loved kittens, thought Cats were aloof, distant
Time flew and Katie had to change her tune
Sadly her small apartment became crowded
with saved kittys, grown into beloved Cats
Sighing she says, “I love my 14 Cats!”
Predator
by Camille DeFer Thompson
Aloof, stealth, stalking
Her prey. Ears twitching, tail curls.
Pounce! Captures her prize.
Pink Nose
by Diane Lovitt
Black and white stitches
Add a pink nose and long tail
A cat appears to hold the door
Hello, Kitty!
by Annette Langer
Kitty, guard my house.
Multitask to catch a mouse—
A needlepoint prize!
Not Just a Doorstop
by Linda Todd
Just a doorstop you say? What an insult to the nice lady that spent hours in front of the television creating me. It’s not easy poking a needle and yarn through tiny holes in a plastic mesh. Good eye-hand coordination is needed to follow the pattern and keep my black, gray, and white colors in the proper order.
I am a better choice to have in your house than a real live kitty. I won’t deposit my trophies of dead birds, lizards, and mice on your white living room carpet. And you’ll never step on my hairballs in the middle of the night.
That sofa you just bought for your media room, it’s safe from me. I can’t shred a thing with claws made of yarn.
Your Aunt Martha’s eyes won’t redden, her nose won’t run, and when she’s telling you a story, she won’t sound like she’s coughing up a lung when I’m around.
It’s true I don’t purr and my fur is not silky. But like a real live kitty you can confess your deepest darkest secrets to me and I’ll always keep them to myself. Tell me your troubles and woes and I’ll never interrupt or butt in and make it all about me.
Your guests won’t screw up their faces with a what’s-that-smell look or make repeated dashes outside for fresh air.
I agree my function in life is pretty simple. I keep the door from slamming shut whenever a breeze flows through the house. But my secondary function could save your possessions and maybe even your life. Should an intruder ever invade your space, you can use my brick base to hit them over the head.
The only drawback to having me in your house rather than a real live kitty is that you’ll never become famous by posting a silly cat video with me as the star. But I’m sure you now agree that I am more than just a doorstop.
