Gone

Shoe owner’s secret
Barefoot escape unknown where
Never to return.
The Abandoned Post
by Lani Longshore
I thought I saw
something
bigger than a squirrel
red
not bloody, brilliant
thrilling
enchanting
I should finish
what I started
what I’m paid for
but that something
out there
calls
Lost in Fun
by Jordan Bernal
Shoes and socks removed
I’ve abandoned my post
Barefoot and carefree
Attention

Darkness and bright lights

Drawing me away.
Today
by Linda Todd
Hector didn’t care anymore what people thought. He’d worked here for thirty years.
Thirty years of invisibility as he worked among laughing and running children and couples holding hands.
Thirty years of sweeping and cleaning up after visitors who dropped their candy wrappers and spit their gum on the pavement.
Thirty years of emptying overflowing garbage pans after a busy weekend of picnics and play.
Today is the day. The day he abandons his post, takes a wade through the pond, and is invisible no more.
